“Hey Melissa,” I said to my wife over the din of a Tony Robbins podcast on a snowy drive back from skiing in 2017. “Why haven’t we ever talked about where we want to be in 10 years?”. She calmly responded, “Because it’s never been about us. We’ve always just been along for the ride.”
On October 12th, I’m both humbled and ecstatic to launch a new book called One Life to Lead: Business Success Through Better Life Design. Launching anything is a little scary, a little exposed. But that’s where we learn, when we’re a little scared to take the next step into the unknown. One Life to Lead is a business leadership book, but it’s not about how to lead others. It’s about how to lead yourself.
So what does this have to do with you and why am I announcing this launch in a Stride newsletter? There a few reasons:
- We want you to know us better. So much of the content in the book represents the way that we want to build our organization, support our team and serve you.
- We want you to build a life, not just a business. We expressly say at Stride that our purpose is to help people with a thirst for continuous improvement achieve their highest and best use. We believe we have a role to play here, but ultimately it is in your control.
- We want to build partnerships with you based on abundance. One Life to Lead shines a light on our self-limiting beliefs and how those often create our feelings of scarcity. I make an effort to paint a different picture, one of abundance, where the lives that we create can be so much bigger than we allow. I feel this way about our relationship and want to create that with you.
Melissa and I had some tough questions to ask each other after that conversation but it opened up a dialogue that fundamentally changed the trajectory of our lives, one that included a commitment to building Stride. I believe that our work is meant to help you achieve more than you ever thought possible. It’s never a slam dunk. It’s not without its challenges. But it is our purpose.
Let’s lead with courage into this 4th quarter of 2021 and prepare for the abundance that lays ahead.
